$31.00 in Coupon Savings at Wal-Mart!
It certainly pays to coupon and today I saved $31.00 at Wal-Mart just by using coupons and knowing when and what to buy.
When you see your sub-total is $92.00 and after 17 coupons drop down to $61.00 even the cashier is amazed. Included in the savings are stuff that worked out for free or were money makers, i.e. three packs of Schick disposable razors for free + $ because the coupon was more than the item on sale! Extra bonus because each pack came with a total of extra bonus razors for free as well. On top of the razors I had acquired for free months ago we have more than enough to last for a long, long time. Let's just say we may now have enough razors to last us until my 2 year old starts shaving.
I also got free Reach dental floss and free 6 pack of fluorescent light bulbs valued at around $12.00! Other things I bought were greatly discounted with the coupons.
The only thing I bought that I didn’t have a coupon for was a new pillow I’ve been needing. I didn’t feel bad one bit about buying that pillow because with the savings I earned it was more than paid for.

Looks like an official IRS logo and message, doesn’t it? Well, I would like to hope that the IRS would proof read for spelling, i.e. “Formular”. Geeze, you’d think if the hackers knew how to get info from people they would at least make sure the English is spelled correctly!
If you get one of these do not give out any personal information. In fact, don’t even click on the link. The IRS will never ask for personal information via email and they certainly wouldn’t ask for credit card numbers, bank account numbers, pin #’s etc. If they want your money, they know how to freeze and take your accounts without any help from you!

Think Being A Mom Doesn't Always Matter? Think Again...
When as a mom, if you think what you do doesn’t always matter, think again.
I was thinking that way just this morning when my 2 year old brought me his toy car that quit working. It talks and makes race car noises. With big sad eyes and very upset he holds his car up to me and says, ”Fix car?” New batteries didn’t work, so I decided to take it apart. After mending a broken wire, handing it back to him and seeing his big smile that was worth more to me than any paycheck I have ever received before. Five minutes of my time made me a hero in his eyes.
Thanks God for sending me that project to remind me I still have a place here.

Stay At Home Mom Can Equal Isolation
I never knew how isolating being a stay at home mom can be. When most of the people you knew as friends were at your work, then you then end up staying home with your child 24/7 it be a big shock. You go from being around people all day long to being alone with your child and doing a job that never ends. You feel like you have basically no friends and it can cause you to feel very lonely and depressed.
Trying to stay in contact with your old friends from work sounds good in theory, but never seems to work in real life. You no longer have any connection, the common denominator is gone and you have nothing left to talk about. They move on and you are left missing them more than you ever thought you would.
This happened to me twice. First when I was laid off from my job and second when my horse died, I lost my good friends I had in the horse world. Though my horse friends invited me back to play with their horses, I just don’t feel comfortable doing that. I’m not just some horse crazy kid just wanting to be around horses, I am or should I say was, a horsewoman who had her own horses and liked to help others. Going to either place, work or the barn just to “visit” wouldn’t be the same. Though they would all be nice, I would feel like an outsider. Once I was a friend and co-worker, now I’m just someone they used to know.
So where does that leave me? Who am I now? I am still struggling with this question. I am still identifying myself with what I do. All the modern philosophers say not to do that, but how do you not do that? What do I do with me now? When my whole world revolved around work, horses and racing and all but a little bit of racing is gone, how do I define myself?
I know that I want to be the best mom I can be and I am so grateful I have been able to stay home with him while he’s young. But what do I want to be when I grow up? Besides being my son’s teacher in life, a big responsibility I might add, I also know that leading by example is very powerful. I want my son to know that Mom is more than just someone who cooks, cleans and does laundry. I want him to know that Mom is also a person with dreams, goals and desires of her own. I want him to see me striving for, sometimes failing, trying harder and eventually achieving my goals. By leading by example I want to teach him he can do the same if he wants to bad enough.
Due to current finances since I am not earning a paycheck, I am not able to follow my dream of having horses and teaching children, a calling I have felt for many years. So I must somehow find another way to identify myself. I only hope I hear when God tells me which direction to go now.
I just realized while typing this, I know one thing for certain - I want to be a good mom. I guess that is just one part, a very important part, of who I am supposed to be. Because if I mess that up, nothing else I ever accomplish will really matter.

Kids Help To Keep Flood Waters Back

This is an amazing story. Most teens want to text their friends every thirty seconds, but in Fargo, ND they have put their cell phones down to fill sandbags to help keep their neighbors homes and the town from flooding.
They know their help is desperately needed and are doing all they can to help. "They pretty much have saved our community," said David Stark, 62, who worked beside hundreds of student volunteers Tuesday.
The city’s goal was met three days ahead of schedule thanks largely in part to these selfless kids. So thumbs up to the young people and all those helping to save their town!
Please send prayers up for the residents there and everywhere that are facing disaster.

Review - Rohrer's Tavern
Over the weekend we went to Rohrer's Tavern in Northbend.
I had a gift certificate worth $25 and was looking forward to using it. After a very stressful week we finally were able to get some time and a sitter to have a very rare date night.
We had never been to Rohrer's Tavern. I was looking forward to trying their seafood.
I had asked a couple of people if they had ever been there. They said yes. I asked if they liked it, they said it was OK. They didn't have anything else to say about it, so I was skeptical of how it would be, but was hopeful.
Well, it a nutshell - we will never go back.
The waitress was nice and brought us our drink order quickly, but when we were ready to order she was nowhere to be found. After several minutes, I flagged down another waitress who took our order, but didn't seem too happy that she had to. We later noticed our waitress was filling in at the bar and we could only assume she forgot about us.
We did receive our food in relatively short order and it was OK, what little we ate of it. You see, the entire time we were there they had a drunk man sitting at the bar right behind us yelling very vulgar remarks at another patron. Instead of management telling him to stop or to leave, they just kept serving him drinks. There were children in this restaurant and you could see how uncomfortable other customers were with the language this man was screaming at the top of his lungs.
I can take cussing, but I was very upset at having to listen to something very vulgar, very loud, over and over and over again.
If I hadn't been so stressed I would have told that guy to shut up and if he didn't, I would tell management, "Either he goes or we go!" Instead though we just asked for a box for our food and explained to the waitress why were leaving. We were both concerned if we confronted the man and he became obnoxious that a fight would ensue. Neither one of us were in the mood to tolerate such behavior and knew it was best to just leave.
They also wouldn't take our gift certificate. We didn't spend the required $35. I should have insisted that they accept it or we were not going to pay, but I just wanted to get out of there. I yelled at the guy who was being vulgar and thanked him for ruining our dinner.
The manager came to see us on our way out. I told her that I was under the impression that this was a family restaurant and asked why would she and her staff put up with that. She had the nerve to say she didn't hear him say it but just a few times. Just a few times?!! I told her she obviously would much rather have that kind of patron than us in her restaurant and we left.
In hindsight, we should have handled it better on our end, we were just so stressed out and wore out from the hard week, neither one of us felt like a confrontation. When you are that tired you tend to lose your temper easily and we didn't want to do that.
We did pay our bill, but looking back on it I wished we hadn't. We ended up not taking the food.
I still have that gift certificate for $25 that I will mail to anyone if you want to see how you like the place. Maybe you will have better luck than we did or maybe management learned a very valuable lesson.

Kindness Breeds More Kindness, Study Shows
A study done recently showed that generosity is contagious.
Apparently, when one person performs a single act of kindness, it influences dozens more.
Though the study seems rather dry, and I think most scientific studies are, it still shows that when a person is observed by others being generous and giving, it causes others to do the same.
Interesting………so all we need to do is see someone acting kindly, generously and selfless and it causes us to want to do the same.
Maybe we need to see more acts of kindness on the news and in the news papers than news of people behaving badly. If we do that we may change how the world acts one person at a time.

Today’s Good News - NFL Player's Generous Gift
When you hear about NFL players in the news, it’s rarely good news isn’t it.
When one of them does something wrong it’s plastered all over the news over and over again till you’re sick of hearing it. I know I am often very disappointed with professional athletes, whom many young people look up to, for always being in trouble with the law. The extreme amount of money they earn and I use the term, “earn” very loosely for some, does nothing to help their personality any. Many of these athletes have forgotten where they came from and do nothing to help their communities where their fans reside.
Well, here is a news story about a NFL linebacker from the New Orleans Saints who did the opposite – he did something extremely generous before leaving the Saints and signing as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns.
Scott Fujita gave half of his Super Bowl check to charity. He split it by giving half of it to relief efforts in Haiti and the other half going to coastal restoration in New Orleans. Now that is how a professional player should act – with kindness and generosity. The rest of the so called, “professional” players who always seem to find themselves on the wrong side of humanity really could learn a lesson or two about giving back.
It's too bad that this will probably never make front page news, but my question is, "Why not?" I would much rather hear about this then some other player in jail for whatever reason this time, wouldn't you? I know there are many athletes who do good works and never get any recognition or even a mention of it by the news which is so sad. That is why I'm sharing some "Good News" like this.

How Checking Out Other Websites Can Save You Money – “Cincinnati Cents”
In this “How Checking Out Other Websites Can Save You Money” series, I will share with you some of the websites I use to save money. I will tell you what I like and what I don’t like about the site and how I use it save money.
Today, I recommend trying Cincinnati Cents.
Cincinnati Cents published by a woman named Katie, is another blog that has great money saving advice. In addition to local grocery deals and coupon matchups she has a wonderful series called Dinners On A Dime. She provides a week’s list of dinners made with inexpensive ingredients that are easy to fix. Not only does she provide the ingredient list and cooking directions, but also the cost of the meal which is great! Her blog is easy to read with her articles taking center stage on the page and without too many ads. Her tabs and sidebar have the topics broken down well.
Now for what I don’t like.
Well, I really cannot find too much negative to say about her blog. Yes, there are other blogs that have more content, more giveaways and more postings, but I like Cincinnati Cents for its simplicity and for not overwhelming you with too many postings.
I highly recommend you sign up for email list if you are in the Cincinnati area and trying it out for a month or so.
