If you are expecting this site to show a person whose house is spotless, with homemade meals and desert made from scratch on the table every night, the laundry always caught up, my kid always acting perfect and handmade gifts given for every holiday, then you’ve landed on the wrong site.

If you are NOT like the person mentioned above and you want to come hang out with someone who isn’t a Supermom either, then you’ve come to the right place.

Register Your Phone Numbers on the Do Not Call List

(My comments are in red)
REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.
REMINDER.....  all cell phone numbers are being released to  telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.
(I haven’t heard this before, but I recommend registering all you numbers on the Do Not Call List anyways, just in case)
You can register your phone numbers, including mobile numbers on the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.

I found it faster and easier to do it online at: https://www.donotcall.gov/

or you can call 888-382-1222
You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

Registering your phone numbers on this list helps to ensure that telemarketers do not call you and if they do, you can report them and have them stopped.

I Will Vacuum Up Anything (except money)

I no longer stoop to pick up anything before vacuuming now unless I'm certain it won't fit in the hose and only after finding out it won't fit by trying to cram it down the hose.
Crayons, small toy pieces, scraps of note paper (of course with phone numbers on it), you name it, gets sucked up and tossed out.
My only exception is money. I will bend over for that. I then find myself saying out loud, "Gee, thanks for the tip." Yes, I even pick up pennies. Pennies do ad up and I value all money, even pennies.
I love the bagless vacuums  now so I can see what I'm throwing out and my son has learned to pick up his toys with only one request from me when I pull out the vacuum. He knows if he wants to keep them, he better get them off the floor.
I need a bigger hose attachment now. One that will suck up shoes, books and car parts left lying around.
This is just another sign I have become my mother.

A Sad Example of Young & Stupid

At the grocery store today, a woman overheard me call my son's name.

She smiled at him and said, "My! What a good little helper you are!"

She then said, "I have a grandson who has the same name, but he's 17 and doesn't talk to Grandma anymore."

I thought to myself, how very sad.

Why is it when we're young, we do not appreciate the elders in our life till we're older, they're gone and we realize how much we need them?

New Car Seat Regulations

The American Academy of Pediatrics and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued separate but consistent new recommendations Monday.

Infants should ride rear facing till age two. This recommendation isn’t exactly new as it was just a suggestion when my little one was one, so I kept him rear facing till 22 months when everyone else had already turned their kids around when they turned one. I understood the reasoning – that young children’s spine and neck cannot handle the jerk that can occur during a crash. Severe neck and spinal injuries have occurred to young children because their heads are so large.

One-year-olds are five times less likely to be injured in a crash if they are in a rear-facing car seat than a forward-facing seat, according to a 2007 analysis of five years of U.S. crash data.

Make sure your child’s weight does not exceed the infant car seat’s weight limit. If the child’s weight does, then you need to purchase a convertible seat that can be used both rear and forward facing. When purchasing a car seat for an infant, the most cost effective way is to just buy a convertible seat that can accommodate both infants up through the toddler stage and can be turned around to face forward. Luckily there are more and more seats being produced that can do both.

Older children who've outgrown front-facing car seats should ride in booster seats until the lap-shoulder belt fits them. Booster seats help position adult seat belts properly on children's smaller frames. If the seat belt doesn’t fit properly it can cause serious internal injuries during a crash.

Children usually can graduate from a booster seat when their height reaches 4 feet 9 inches. This can occur between years of 8 and 12. Children younger than 13 should ride in the back seat.

I can hear the groans from both parents and children. Try to convince a 12 year old he has to ride in a booster seat and in the back seat? Good luck with that, right? Well, it may very well be something we must insist on to keep them safe.

Think you can’t do that? Here’s a little thought that might help you.

Think about the parents whose children who were killed in car crashes who may have survived had they followed these guidelines – kept their children in the booster seat in the back. I think if they could go back and do it all over again, they would have made their children ride in the booster seat no matter what.

It may be hard to convince my son of why I am insisting he stays in a booster seat and can’t ride up front when his friends can, but I must keep in mind it’s better to have him mad at me then for him to be dead.

It may seem hard to make our kids follow these new rules, but it's better than the alternative - picking out a child size casket.

ALERT! a Stolen 95 green dodge caravan with 4 year old inside! KY license 471-CYD
This van was stolen at a gas station when the dad left his child unattended to go inside and pay.
Suspects are described as white male wearing black UK style jacket white woman in tan hoodie. Left KY over Clay Way Bailey bridge into Ohio.
Prayers this boy is returned safely to his naive father.

Never, never leave your kid inside a car especially with keys in it!
Still, a moment of ignorance does not deserve losing your child. So scary.
Even when I pay at the pump, I take they keys with me. I don't want someone jumping in on the other side while I'm pumping the gas and take off. That and I don't want to accidently lock the keys in the car.

God, I pray that you watch over this child. Please convince these thieves to return the child safely. Please comfort his parents in this time of great fear. In Jesus' name we pray.

UPDATE: The child has been found safe at a firestation and the suspects in custody. Thank you God!

Why Do Little Boys Hate Having Their Picture Taken?

Little boys just do not like having their picture taken.
Only exception is if it's a mud project they are working on. Then they smile big and proud.
Out of the 50,000 photos they took, only 3 were marginally good with a smile. Sigh.
I hate it when you get them home though, as you always wish you had ordered the other pose.

It Could Have Just As Easily Been Us

That AP photo of seeing that Japanese woman with her little one crouching down next to her after the quake is heartbreaking. I realize it could have easily been me and my son.

"Only for the grace of God go I"

Prayers to all those families who have lost loved ones and for those still searching and hoping.

Are you prepared if a disaster, either natural or man made, hit us here?

I started a home disaster pack, but never finished it. I let life busyness get in the way.

I recommend every household have one ready.

You can get info on what you need from FEMA’s website - http://www.fema.gov/areyouready/appendix_b.shtm

You also should have a backpack at the ready to grab for every member of the household including the dog in case officials come knocking at the door saying you have to leave NOW!

You won't have time to pack.

We think it will never happen to us, but in today's world you just never know.

Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Save Money, the Environment and Your Health While doing Laundry

Do all that while doing the laundry at the same time? Now that’s multitasking!

Did you know?
Many laundry powders may contain irritants that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled, a common cause of allergic response.
Triethanolamine dodecylbenzenesulfonate (who comes up with these names?) is such an irritant, and is on the EPA and DOT hazardous substances list. (YIKES!)
Contact can irritate and burn the skin and eyes, breathing it can irritate the nose, throat, and lungs, causing coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath. Repeated skin contact may cause dryness, itching, chronic irritation, and rash. (Eww, and to think many people sleep on sheets soaked in this stuff!)

Fresh Laundry Concentrate does not contain these hazardous ingredients.
Safe for you, your home, and your planet.™

Here’s the Shaklee Difference:

SAFE
✔ Hypoallergenic
✔ Safe for use on all washable fabrics
✔ No chlorine bleach

POWERFUL
✔ Super concentrated – 32 ounces cleans

stains than All® Small and Mighty®
Liquid Laundry Detergent™ in third party
performance tests*

Shout® Triple Action and Spray ‘n
Wash® in third-party performance
tests*

* This performance comparison was done on June 6, 2006 and is valid only for the named products marketed at that time.

Tip: Washing clothes in cold water can save up to 10 cents per eight-pound load, assuming use of an electric water heater and U.S. average electric rate
(Consumer Reports 2005).

Fresh Laundry Concentrate (Liquid)
Directions for best results

(This is what the label says, but let me tell you, I have a front loader and I us a lot LESS than this! Often times I am using just a teaspoon or a tablespoon of liquid for a large load! This stuff lasts forever!!)

top loading washers 1 oz. – medium load
2 oz. – large loads
front loading washers 1 oz. – medium and large loads

Here’s a fresh idea: Pre-spot your laundry with the same thing you use to wash it.
This two-for-one concentrate doesn’t just out perform leading detergents. It also
out-removes big-name spot removers.
And does it without removing natural resources.
How’s that for a breath of fresh laundry?

To Pre-spot Stains Test a small spot first to make sure color won’t bleed or fade.
Wet fabric and rub a little Fresh Laundry right into the spot. Wash as usual. Check
labels. Some flame-retardant fabrics need specific care.

Is That God?

A comment my newly 3 year old asks often while pointing at a picture of most anything.

When he asks me where God is, my answer of everywhere does little to satisfy his curiosity. I try to explain as simply as possible that though you can’t see God, He is always there. I go on to say He can see you, you just can’t see Him. And you can talk to him and his son, Jesus anytime, not just during bedtime prayers.

I think that answer, that God is everywhere and sees everything you do, may seem a little creepy to a kid, but I am at a lost to explain in toddler terms of who God is and how to explain where He is.

How do I explain God’s presence without making it sound like God is always watching him like Big Brother just waiting to catch him doing something wrong?

How do I teach my son about God’s love for him without it sounding like he’s being stalked?

I love the fact that my son is becoming curious about God and just doesn’t go through the motions of praying at meals and bedtimes. My son wants to know God.

I just want to make sure I make learning about God fun, exciting and it makes my son feel even more loved than he does now. I want to create that feeling of wanting to know God a lifelong passion.

I must ask God to guide me in guiding my son to Him.

"Not In a House, Not With a Mouse...."

In honor of Dr. Seuss's Birthday I think I will try to make green eggs and ham for supper tonight!
Maybe I should make a pizza as a backup in case no one eats it!
"Not in a house, not with a mouse. Not in a box, not with a fox. I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them Sam I Am!"

Not a Proud Moment

OK, my 3 year old son announces in the grocery store that his butt itches.
He proceeds to pull down his jeans, stick his hand down his underwear and scratches.
I can't say it was one of my proudest moments.
I was unaware how early men start acting like men.

Deal Alert: Whole Chicken on Sale for .88 a Pound

Main Street Markets (formally Marsh's) is having a sale that ends today on Perdue whole chickens for only $.88 a pound!
Perdue makes organic chicken which I prefer over non-organic because their hens are not fed any artificial ingredients, given hormones, etc. If you knew what is given to non-organic chickens you would never eat it.

This sale is a great deal.
I bought a couple of five pounders and got enough chicken to make several meals.
Even though this store has a little higher prices than your bigger chains, they often have great deals on chicken, so watch their ads which run from Thursdays through Wednesdays.
I cook my chickens up with a little seasoning at a low temperature of 350 degrees for a couple of hours till temperatures reach 180 degrees on a meat thermometer. I lightly cover the bird with foil till that last 30 minutes or so. Then I take the foil off to brown.
I keep the skin on till I'm ready to cut the meat off. This helps keep the juices in and cooking at a lower temperatures assures that your meat will be juicy.
I slice the breast meat off wrap and freeze.
Then I pick the rest of the meat off in pieces, separate the white from the dark.
Then I put the amounts I normally use in my dishes into small ziploc bags, then I put the several small bags into a large freezer bag. Mark and date it.
Then when I need to add chicken to a dish I'm making all I have to do is pull out a premeasured, pre-cooked amount of chicken, defrost and add to the meal.
Plus I get loads of chicken juice to make homemade gravy that is so mouthwatering, you can't get enough.
If you think that the dark meat won't be used because many people don't like dark meat, try making chicken salad with it. You can't tell the difference in the taste at all. A bowl of chicken salad around here doesn't even last a day.
It makes meals so much simpler and faster when you already have the meat cooked and buying it on sale in larger quantity saves you lots of money.
Nothing could be better than saving money and saving time all at once!
